Results linger for a few seconds, and then fade. Easy. (I was disappointed that the scan signal isn't also visible from outside the ship; oh well).

While the Aquila's role is to travel for a long time (it's an expedition ship) and use really powerful scanners and grab stuff, find jump points and such. So the Terrapin is way less capable in scanners, space, range, etc, BUT is highly armored. 2. Every ship has a scanner but only those which have a Data/Pathfinder Scanner can scan for ores (i.e. Reliant Sen, Terrapin). But it's more effective to use Prospector or future mining ships (i.e. Mole, Orion) because of more range.
