Here is what fixed the issue: to add the myq to specific SSID I had to put my phone on the same SSID during the setup. to fix the drops I did the following: set static IP for myq. moved it to a dedicated 2.4ghz SSID and set it on specific channel. homed that SSID to the closest antenna only. so no roaming possible. 1.In order to change to 2.4GHz, you will have to access your router's settings.
